Al-Safa and Al-Marwah are two famous symbols of the Sa’i ritual, and they are two mountains located east of the Grand Mosque. It is a great ritual of Hajj and Umrah, God Almighty said﴾إن الصّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِن شَعَائِرِ اللهِ فمن حج البيت أو اعتمر فلا جناح عليه أن يطوف بهما﴿.. The Hajj and Umrah pilgrim worships his Lord by crossing the distance between Safa and Marwah seven times, as the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, did.
The Saudi expansion project for Al Masaa is the largest expansion that Al Masaa has witnessed in its history. With the aim of facilitating the performance of rituals for pilgrims and Umrah performers, taking into account legal and geographical considerations, in addition to previous achievements that were implemented during the auspicious Saudi era.
This expansion led to an increase in the total width of the mosque to double. After the width of the mosque was 20 meters, it became 40 meters, taking advantage of the spaces adjacent to the sanctuary, and the number of floors reached four floors with a total area exceeding 87 thousand square meters, after the total area was approximately 29 thousand square meters, i.e. an increase of more than 43 thousand square meters before expansion.
While the total building surface area on all floors of the pursuit and service areas is about 125 thousand square metres, which certainly means a significant reduction in congestion, thus ensuring the safety of pilgrims and Umrah pilgrims. It now has a capacity of (118) thousand people per hour, and the length of the path between the two mountains is 394 metres. Its width is 40 meters, and the length of the distance traveled by the Umrah pilgrim and the pilgrim in the Sa’y is 2761.5 meters in seven rounds.
