Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Medina region and Chairman of the Council of the Region Development Authority, launched the first trips of the “Badr Trail”, through which the authority aims to activate the road to Badr by walking and using camels, in preparation for its adoption as a sustainable tourism product that supports the economies of the governorates, at the ceremony that was held. On this occasion, in the presence of the Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dr. Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah, and the CEO of the Region Development Authority, Engineer Fahd Al-Balaihishi.

The Emir of the region listened to the features of the project, which will provide a safe environment for lovers of adventures, trips, and hiking practitioners. The Badr Trail also enhances the cultural aspects of the governorates, in parallel with the work of designing and developing the trail through the global competition recently launched by the Region Development Authority in cooperation with its partners in the Heritage Authority. And the Guests of God Service Program to design the path and the historical center of Badr Governorate.

During the ceremony, Prince Salman bin Sultan was briefed on the most prominent sites that the road passes through, which amount to 40 historical sites and landmarks related to the story of Badr, and the stone monuments located along the path over a distance of 175 kilometers and their remaining evidence, in addition to more than 25 villages and residential communities along the path. While the trip takes four days, it stops on the first day in Wadi Malal, and the overnight stay is on the second day of the trip at Bir Al-Rawha’, and on the third day the trip stops in Khaif Al-Hazami from Wadi Al-Safra, and on the fourth day the trip stops in Wadi Dhafran.

More than 25 travelers from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United States of America, Britain, Canada, Germany, Malaysia, Indonesia, Egypt, Lebanon and a number of Arab countries participated in the first trip.

The Badr Historical Trail development project comes within the framework of the Authority’s efforts, in cooperation with its partners, to prepare and activate more than 100 sites related to the Prophet’s biography and Islamic history in the region, with the aim of enriching the experience of the guests of God, visitors to the Prophet’s Mosque, and enhancing the quality of life of residents within the goals of Saudi Vision 2030. The trail documents landmarks. The Prophet’s biography reflects the historical importance of the region and contributes to achieving sustainable economic and development impact, while the Authority intends to offer the opportunity to participate in “Badr Path” trips during the coming period - God willing - through the “Spirit of the City” platform in partnership with the private and non-profit sectors.

It is noteworthy that the Region Development Authority is working, in cooperation with its partners in the Ministries of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, the Program for Serving the Guests of the Most Gracious, and the Saudi Tourism Authority, on a project to rehabilitate and activate Islamic history sites and enrichment destinations according to an approved time plan to contribute to enriching the religious and cultural experience of visitors to Medina under the auspices of the government.
