“The Well of the Poor” in Medina...a historical landmark that embodies the aspects of righteousness and benevolence in the biography of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.

Al-Faqir Well in Medina receives visitors of various nationalities after the completion of the rehabilitation and development of the historical landmark, which dates back more than 14 centuries. It is considered one of the historical monuments that embodies aspects of acts of righteousness and charity in the biography of the Prophet of Mercy and Guidance, peace and blessings be upon him.
Al-Faqir’s Well is one of the historical wells in Medina and is located in an area linked to the biography of the Prophet - may God bless him and grant him peace - in an area known as the Prophet’s Charity Area, which includes Al-Maytham, which contains Al-Faqir’s Well, Burqa, Al-Husna, Al-Dalal, Al-Awaf, Maithab, Umm Ibrahim’s Mashraba, and Al-Safiya.
Historical researcher Fouad Al-Maghamisi explained in his interview with “SPA” that the Al-Faqir Well is located in the high area of ​​Medina, and is surrounded by many orchards and historical monuments related to his biography, peace and blessings be upon him. The diameter of the well is three meters, and it used to bring water from the Al-Faqir Well in Al-Sawani in the past, then It was brought in with machines, and now the place is under the supervision and development of the Medina Region Development Authority and the relevant concerned authorities.
He explained that the well has facilities that include a pond and arches that feed the orchards surrounding the well. The well is also fed by the water of Wadi Bathan, about which the Prophet - may God bless him and grant him peace - said: “Bathan is on one of the canals of Paradise.”
He stated that the name “Al-Faqir” is linked to the story of the great companion Salman Al-Farsi - may God be pleased with him - as he was a slave working for the owner of an orchard in that area, and the Prophet - may God’s prayers and peace be upon him - freed him for a price that was paid to the owner of the orchard in the famous story, and it was known as “The Well.” Salman Al-Farsi,” but the most famous name currently is “Bir al-Faqir.”
The diameter of the Al-Faqir Well is three metres, and when the water is brought, it passes through the waterers through the bridge, then goes to the Al-Faqir Well pond, and from the pond the water begins to be distributed to the orchards according to the meals allocated to the farms and orchards surrounding the well in the Alia area of ​​Medina.
SPA documented scenes from the historical landmark after the completion of its development work, which included installing a meter-high iron fence surrounding the well area and its waterways. The water paths, the well arch, and the main gate were also reinforced with local stones from the heat of Medina and its components, and care was taken to ensure that the works were consistent. Restoration and development of the old building, in addition to planting a number of palm trees in the place, paving its inner courtyard and improving it with aesthetic shapes, and stone benches distributed throughout the place for visitors to sit, in addition to installing a plaque at the entrance to introduce the place, its history, and its connection to the biography of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
