The Holy Kaaba Adorned in Its New Kiswa for the Year 1448H by 150 Saudi Craftsmen

16 Jun 2026

In a scene brimming with pride and dignity as the new Hijri year unfolds, the Holy Kaaba adorned itself in its new Kiswa for the year 1448H, in a grand spectacle that reflects the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's meticulous care and reverence for the two holiest shrines. Far from being merely an annual ceremonial routine, the crafting of the Kiswa is a remarkable national success story, shaped and brought to life by 150 skilled Saudi artisans and craftspeople. Over 11 months, these dedicated craftspeople poured their expertise and know-how into producing 47 exquisite pieces of premium black silk, meticulously embroidered with 30 Quranic verses using silver threads plated with 24-karat gold. The Kiswa's total weight reaches 1,410 kilograms. The production of the Kiswa passes through seven precise stages: water purification and silk washing, followed by weaving, printing, embroidery, assembly, and inspection, culminating in its transport via a specially designated trailer that ensures the preservation of this unique Islamic heritage until it reaches the circumambulation courtyard of the Holy Mosque. This majestic scene reflects the Kingdom's enduring care and guardianship of the Two Holy Mosques through a comprehensive system that combines the authenticity of Islamic craftsmanship with modern technologies. It showcases the capability of national cadres contributing to this exceptional endeavor, an achievement that touches the hearts of Muslims worldwide and renews their sense of faith, unity, and connection to the most sacred of Islamic sanctities.
